Trophies

The cabinets, line by line.

Messi has the bigger overall haul thanks to a long Barcelona era and the 2022 World Cup. Ronaldo wins the Champions League column outright and is the only player here with league titles in four different countries.

Messi · trophy run

A historic Barcelona haul, finished in Qatar.

Most of Messi's trophies came in a single dynasty: the Pep Guardiola Barcelona side and the years that followed. Ten La Liga titles, four Champions Leagues and multiple domestic doubles and trebles. Two Ligue 1 titles with PSG followed, then MLS Leagues Cups with Inter Miami. His international cabinet was empty until 2021 — and now contains a Copa America, a Finalissima, a World Cup and a second Copa America. That late run is the difference between the two trophy counts.

Ronaldo · trophy run

Four leagues, five Champions Leagues, one Euros.

Ronaldo's distinction is breadth. Premier League titles with Manchester United, La Liga titles with Real Madrid, Serie A titles with Juventus, and an Asian league title with Al Nassr — no other male footballer has been league champion in four different domestic leagues. Add five Champions Leagues — one at United, four in five years at Madrid — and Euro 2016 with Portugal, and you have a cabinet that travels well.
