Privacy

Privacy policy.

What Ronaldo vs Messi collects, what Google collects through this site, and what the host logs. There are no accounts, no forms and no newsletter, so most of the usual answers here are "nothing".

Who runs this site

Ronaldo vs Messi (ronaldovsmessi.com) is an independent football-statistics reference. It is responsible for the decisions described on this page. There is no company, no postal address and no contact channel of any kind — no email address, no phone number, no form. That is stated plainly on the contact page and it has a direct consequence for your rights, set out below.

There are no accounts and nothing to submit

This site has no login, no registration, no newsletter, no comments and no contact form. The only text field anywhere on it is the keyboard-shortcut search box, which filters a list of this site’s own page titles already held in your browser and sends nothing anywhere. Nothing you type on this site is transmitted or stored, because there is nowhere for it to go.

Google Analytics

The site uses Google Analytics 4, measurement ID G-WLGXT0KNET, to count visits and see which pages are read. It loads on every page from www.googletagmanager.com and sends measurements to www.google-analytics.com. It sets two cookies, both first-party on ronaldovsmessi.com and both readable by JavaScript:

  • _ga — a randomly generated number identifying your browser, so a second visit is not counted as a new person. Measured lifetime: 400 days.
  • _ga_WLGXT0KNET — the per-property session cookie, which tracks whether a visit is new or continuing. Same 400-day lifetime.

What is sent to Google: the page address, the page that referred you, an approximate location derived from your IP address, your device and browser type, and how long you stayed. Not your name and not your email address, because this site never has them. The data is processed by Google LLC in the United States.

One detail worth stating plainly rather than burying: the measurement requests this site currently sends carry npa=0, which means Google’s advertising-personalisation signals are not switched off. Analytics data from this site may therefore be used by Google for advertising personalisation. You can opt out of personalised advertising across all sites at google.com/settings/ads, and you can block analytics entirely with a browser extension or by blocking cookies for this site. Nothing on this site stops working if you do.

Advertising

This site intends to carry advertising through Google AdSense. Ads are not running yet — no advertising code is served at the time of writing, and this section describes what will happen when it is, so the position is on record in advance rather than after the fact.

When ads are enabled, pages will load a script from pagead2.googlesyndication.com. Google and its advertising partners will then set their own cookies and read device identifiers in order to choose and measure ads, including personalised ads where that is permitted. Ronaldo vs Messi does not receive, read or store the data those cookies carry, and does not know who you are. Google explains what it collects on sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Browser storage that is not a cookie

Two values are kept in your browser’s local storage. Neither contains an identifier and neither is ever transmitted: ronaldovsmessi:pinned-stats:v1 remembers which stats you pinned in the comparison tool, and ronaldovsmessi:guess-score:v1 remembers your score in the guessing game on the homepage. Clearing site data in your browser removes both.

What the host logs

The site is hosted on Replit. Like any web host, it records standard server access logs — IP address, timestamp, the address requested, the user agent and the response status — as part of serving pages and protecting the service against abuse. Ronaldo vs Messi does not use those logs to build profiles of visitors, and their retention is governed by the host rather than by this site.

If you are in the EEA or the UK

The analytics cookies described above, and the advertising cookies described above, are not strictly necessary for the site to work. In the European Economic Area (EEA) and the United Kingdom, storing or reading them requires your prior consent. No consent mechanism is currently presented on this site, so that consent is not being collected. That is a known gap and it is stated here rather than glossed over.

The intended fix is Google’s own certified consent management platform, configured through AdSense once the advertising account is approved; it cannot be configured before then. The legal basis relied on for server access logs is legitimate interest in serving and protecting the site; for analytics and advertising it will be consent once the mechanism is live.

On your rights of access, erasure and objection, the honest position is this: because Ronaldo vs Messi publishes no contact channel, a request cannot be made to it. That is a real limitation and it is stated rather than papered over. It matters less than it sounds, because this site holds no data that identifies you — it has no accounts, no forms and no database of visitors. The data that could identify you is held by Google, through the analytics described above, and Google provides its own routes for access and deletion: see myactivity.google.com and google.com/settings/ads. You can also stop the collection entirely by blocking cookies for this site, which breaks nothing here.

Children

This site is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect anything from them.

The terms on which the site itself is offered — including what may be reused and the absence of any warranty on the statistics — are set out separately on the terms of use, and how the figures are compiled is described on methodology.

Changes to this policy

If what the site does changes, this page changes with it. Last reviewed — a date that is edited by hand when this text changes, and is deliberately not wired to the site’s data-refresh timestamp. The changelog records what changed on the site and when.
